Genshin Impact Valeriy Guide: Kit, Gameplay, Weapons & Materials

Valeriy is one of the new characters currently expected to arrive in Genshin Impact Version 7.2 according to pre-release information. He is described as a 4-star Electro Sword support whose core function is not only shielding, but also combining defensive utility, Electro support, resource cycling, and Stellar-Conduct buffs in a single slot.
Before going further, it is important to note that Valeriy's skill names, multipliers, Constellations, and materials are still based on preview or leaked information. They may change before official release. This guide is best used for understanding his likely gameplay direction, planning materials, and deciding whether he is worth watching; final build decisions should still follow the in-game release version.
Valeriy Character Overview
| Item | Current Preview Information |
| Rarity | 4-star |
| Element | Electro |
| Weapon | Sword |
| Core Role | Shield support / Electro buffer / Stellar-Conduct utility |
| Core Resource | Impact Potential |
| Main Mechanic | Builds Impact Potential through Skill and Burst, then converts it into Assault Command through a special Charged Attack |
| Shield Source | Elemental Skill: Offensive Defense: Fortress Advance |
| Shield Attribute | Scales with Valeriy's ATK and has stronger absorption against Electro damage |
| Key Team | Mitya + Valeriy + Odette + Anemo support or Cryo Traveler |
| Weapon Conclusion | Signature weapon information is not confirmed; prioritize Energy Recharge, ATK, and team utility |
In short, Valeriy looks more like a short-rotation utility slot for Electro reaction teams. He enters the field to use his Skill for shielding and initial resources, uses his Burst so the active character can continue generating Impact Potential for him, then uses a special Charged Attack to convert that resource into Assault Command, allowing the active Electro damage dealer to benefit from the buff window.
Valeriy Kit
Normal Attack and Special Charged Attack
Valeriy's Normal Attack is a three-hit Sword combo that deals Physical damage. The standard Charged Attack itself is not the focus. The important part is the special Charged Attack he can trigger after accumulating enough Impact Potential.
When Valeriy has at least 40 Impact Potential, his Charged Attack changes into Mortar Fire: Close-Range Barrage. This special Charged Attack consumes all current Impact Potential, deals AoE Electro damage in front of him, and grants Valeriy 15 stacks of Assault Command.
This mechanic creates his basic loop:
| Step | Action | Purpose |
| 1 | Use Elemental Skill | Gain a shield and immediately generate Impact Potential |
| 2 | Use Elemental Burst | Let the active character's Electro attacks continue generating resources for Valeriy |
| 3 | Switch back to Valeriy and use the special Charged Attack | Consume Impact Potential and gain Assault Command |
| 4 | Switch back to the main DPS | Consume Assault Command through Electro attacks and benefit from the buff |
The more Impact Potential the special Charged Attack consumes, the stronger the bonus provided by Valeriy's passive becomes. Because of that, he is not necessarily a character who should fire the special Charged Attack immediately at 40 points. After the final mechanics are confirmed, players may need to decide whether to rotate quickly or wait during the Burst window to build more resources before firing.
Elemental Skill: Offensive Defense Fortress Advance
Valeriy's Elemental Skill is currently known as Offensive Defense: Fortress Advance. After casting it, he advances forward, deals AoE Electro damage, generates 40 Impact Potential, and creates an Electro shield.
The key point is that this shield scales with Valeriy's ATK, rather than HP or DEF like many common shielders. In the leaked Level 6 values, the Skill deals about 232.4% ATK as Electro damage, while the shield absorbs about 292.5% of Valeriy's ATK plus 2,074. The shield lasts about 18 seconds, the Skill cooldown is about 10 seconds, and the shield has 250% absorption efficiency against Electro damage.
This means Valeriy's build should not simply copy HP-scaling or DEF-scaling shield characters. ATK affects both his shield strength and part of his support scaling, while Energy Recharge determines whether he can consistently use his Burst and keep the resource loop moving.
Elemental Burst: Firepower Focus Thunderous Assault
Valeriy's Elemental Burst is currently known as Firepower Focus: Thunderous Assault. It first deals one instance of AoE Electro damage, then launches a Thunderstorm Shell that causes repeated bombardments to fall onto the battlefield, dealing multiple instances of AoE Electro damage.
The currently leaked Level 6 values are roughly 189.2% for the initial Burst hit and about 44.1% for each Thunderstorm Shell hit. The Burst lasts about 12 seconds, has a cooldown of about 15 seconds, and costs 60 Energy.
The Burst's true value is not only damage, but also resource recovery. While Thunderstorm Shell is active, Electro attacks from the nearby active character can generate Impact Potential for Valeriy. Each qualifying hit grants 5 points, and each Burst can generate up to 80 points.
If this mechanic is implemented as currently described, Valeriy's Burst will be the key to his place in Stellar-Conduct teams: he provides shielding and the field effect first, then allows the active Electro character to deal damage while helping him build the resources needed for the next special Charged Attack.
Valeriy Passive Talents
| Passive | Effect Interpretation |
| Accompanied by Advancing Barrage | While Thunderstorm Shell is active, Electro attacks from the nearby active character can generate Impact Potential for Valeriy, 5 points per hit, up to 80 points per Burst |
| Charge the Breach | Impact Potential consumed by the special Charged Attack strengthens the damage benefit provided by Assault Command, with a higher multiplier in Stellar-Conduct teams |
| Exploration Passive | Increases rewards from 20-hour Snezhnaya expeditions by 25%, excluding Nod-Krai |
The most important passive is Charge the Breach. Based on current information, Assault Command's benefit increases according to the Impact Potential consumed: if the bonus applies to Stellar-Conduct-related damage, each point consumed adds a value equal to about 0.9% of Valeriy's ATK; outside Stellar-Conduct scenarios, the value is about 0.3%.
This means Valeriy can still provide utility in regular Electro teams, but his highest-value scenario is clearly Stellar-Conduct. As long as the team can trigger that system consistently, his ATK, resource cap, and resource generation speed will translate into more meaningful team gains.
Valeriy Gameplay Loop
Valeriy's combat goal is not to stay on the field for a long time. Instead, he quickly completes shield setup, Burst setup, resource conversion, and buff handoff. A preview rotation can be understood like this:
| Phase | Action | Note |
| Opening | Valeriy uses Elemental Skill | Gains shield, initial Impact Potential, and Electro action |
| Setup | Valeriy uses Elemental Burst | Puts Thunderstorm Shell on the field and prepares off-field resource generation |
| Main Output | Switch to the active Electro or Stellar-Conduct core | Trigger resource generation through Electro attacks and try to make full use of the Burst window |
| Buff Conversion | Switch back to Valeriy and use the special Charged Attack | Consume Impact Potential and gain 15 stacks of Assault Command |
| Damage Window | Switch back to the main DPS | Use Electro attacks to consume Assault Command and gain the corresponding damage benefit |
Whether this loop feels smooth depends on three things: whether Valeriy has enough Energy Recharge, whether the active character's Electro hit frequency can reliably trigger resource generation, and whether Assault Command's trigger condition and consumption speed fit the team's output rhythm.
Before the final release information is available, it is safest to understand Valeriy as a coordinated utility support rather than a universal plug-and-play shielder.
Valeriy Weapons
The source preview clearly states that Valeriy's signature weapon information has not yet been confirmed. Therefore, the following weapon suggestions are preview build logic rather than a final strength ranking.
| Weapon Direction | Recommended Reason | Best Situation |
| Energy Recharge Sword | Burst is the key to Valeriy's resource loop, and the 60 Energy cost needs stable cycling | Unstable rotations, low team particle generation, or a desire to Burst every rotation |
| High Base ATK / ATK Substat Sword | Shield strength and part of his support value are tied to ATK | Energy Recharge is already sufficient and you want thicker shields plus stronger support scaling |
| Favonius Sword | Improves Energy for Valeriy and the whole team, but needs some CRIT Rate to trigger reliably | Low-cost general support route |
| Skyward Blade | Provides Energy Recharge and high base ATK, balancing rotation and stats | You have an unused 5-star Sword and do not want to take a main DPS weapon |
| Sacrificial Sword | If the final version allows Skill reset to provide extra resources and shield coverage, it may have tactical value | Requires final testing of trigger logic and resource gain |
| Freedom-Sworn | May support reaction teams and team buffs, but requires Valeriy to trigger its conditions reliably | High-investment option that depends on final mechanics |
Low-cost players can start by considering Favonius Sword. It may not produce the thickest shield, but it can ease the pressure of a 60 Energy Burst rotation. If the final release proves that Valeriy's ATK scaling is especially important, high base ATK or ATK-boosting weapons will rise in priority.
For now, it is not recommended to pull a weapon banner specifically for him. Wait until his signature weapon, skill multipliers, and final Assault Command mechanics are confirmed before deciding whether weapon investment is worthwhile.
Valeriy Artifacts and Stat Direction
The preview article does not provide a complete artifact ranking, so it is better to evaluate by function for now.
| Goal | Recommended Stat Direction |
| Stable rotation | Prioritize Energy Recharge to ensure the Burst is available every rotation |
| Shield and buffs | Prioritize ATK% to improve shield absorption and related passive scaling |
| Favonius trigger | Add enough CRIT Rate to make Favonius Sword reliable |
| Personal damage | Electro damage, CRIT, and ATK can be considered, but they are lower priority than support rotation |
For main stats, a temporary direction can be Energy Recharge Sands / ATK Goblet / ATK or CRIT Circlet. If the team supplies Energy easily, the Sands can be changed to ATK. If using Favonius Sword, a CRIT Rate Circlet may help secure particle generation.
For artifact sets, it is too early to lock in one answer. If no one else in the team uses Noblesse Oblige, Valeriy can consider a 4-piece Noblesse setup. If a future set is made for Stellar-Conduct, it may replace traditional support sets.
Valeriy Constellations
| Constellation | Current Preview Effect | Value Judgment |
| C1 | Restores Energy after using the special Charged Attack, starting at 6 Energy and increasing based on Impact Potential beyond the initial 40-point requirement, up to about 15 Energy; also improves the first Skill resource gain after entering combat | Improves rotation and suits players who want stable Burst access |
| C2 | After using Skill, nearby party members gain 100 Elemental Mastery for 18 seconds; excess Impact Potential can also be converted into additional shield absorption | High-value Constellation that improves both reactions and survivability |
| C3 | Elemental Skill level +3 | Directly improves shield strength and Skill damage |
| C4 | Impact Potential cap +30 and generation efficiency +30% | Strengthens the core resource loop and raises passive scaling potential |
| C5 | Elemental Burst level +3 | Increases Burst and Thunderstorm Shell damage |
| C6 | Increases the damage of the special Charged Attack and Thunderstorm Shell; after hitting, Valeriy gains CRIT Rate for Electro damage, and if the damage counts as Stellar-Conduct reaction damage, it gains extra CRIT DMG | Ceiling Constellation for complete Stellar-Conduct play |
From a value perspective, C0 already provides shielding and the basic loop. C2 is the early Constellation worth watching most because it combines Elemental Mastery, shielding, and team utility. C4 and C6 are better suited for players who plan to build long-term around Valeriy and Stellar-Conduct.
However, chasing Constellations for a 4-star character is random. Unless Valeriy appears on a 5-star banner you already want, it is not recommended to spend large amounts of Primogems just to force C6.
Valeriy Ascension Materials
Based on current leaked information, raising Valeriy to Level 90 requires the following materials:
| Material | Quantity |
| Vajrada Amethyst Sliver | 1 |
| Vajrada Amethyst Fragment | 9 |
| Vajrada Amethyst Chunk | 9 |
| Vajrada Amethyst Gemstone | 6 |
| Version 7.2 new local specialty | 168 |
| Severed Tail of the Sky-Roamer | 46 |
| Ethereal Glimmershard | 18 |
| Ethereal Crystal | 30 |
| Ethereal Crystalscale Stone | 36 |
| Mora | 420,000 |
Electro Ascension gems, Mora, and some enemy drops can be prepared in advance. The Version 7.2 new local specialty must wait until the new version area opens. If you plan to raise him to Level 80 or 90 immediately, prepare general materials and EXP books first so that not every resource is blocked on launch day.
Valeriy Talent Materials
To raise all three of Valeriy's Talents from Level 1 to Level 10, the current leaked requirements are:
| Material | Quantity |
| Teachings of Glory | 9 |
| Guide to Glory | 63 |
| Philosophies of Glory | 114 |
| Ethereal Glimmershard | 18 |
| Ethereal Crystal | 66 |
| Ethereal Crystalscale Stone | 93 |
| Counterfeit Resin | 18 |
| Crown of Insight | 3 |
| Mora | 4,957,500 |
In practice, it is not recommended to triple-crown all Talents at the start. Valeriy is closer to a support, so investment should focus on Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst. Normal Attack only affects regular Sword attacks, and whether the key special Charged Attack depends on Normal Attack talent level still needs final testing.
If resources are limited, you can plan around the following stages:
| Investment Stage | Recommendation |
| Initial usable build | Skill 6 / Burst 6 / Normal Attack 1 |
| Common support build | Skill 8 / Burst 8 / Normal Attack based on final testing |
| Heavy investment | Skill 9-10 / Burst 9-10 / upgrade Normal Attack only if special Charged Attack scaling clearly benefits from it |
Valeriy Team Ideas
Valeriy's clearest team identity is Stellar-Conduct Electro support. His shield provides safety, Impact Potential and Assault Command provide damage support, and his Burst lets the active Electro character generate resources for his next cycle while dealing damage.
| Team Direction | Example Lineup | Valeriy's Role |
| Stellar-Conduct core team | Mitya + Valeriy + Odette + Sucrose | Shielding, Electro support, Assault Command buff, with Sucrose providing Swirl and Elemental Mastery |
| Stellar-Conduct variant | Mitya + Valeriy + Odette + Cryo Traveler | Uses Cryo Traveler to supplement Snezhnaya mechanics and reaction environment |
| Electro on-field team | Electro main DPS + Valeriy + Hydro/Cryo/Anemo support + sustain or buffer | Valeriy provides shielding and Electro damage support |
| Low-cost transition team | Lisa or another Electro DPS + Valeriy + Sucrose + healer | Uses a lower-cost setup to experience shielding and Electro reaction support |
Current information specifically mentions Valeriy's potential synergy with Mitya. Mitya's leaked mechanics also lean toward Stellar-Conduct and Elemental Mastery, so the two may form a new version core. However, this team depends heavily on unreleased mechanics and should not be treated as the final answer yet.
For regular players, Valeriy's team value can be judged by three questions:
| Question | Judgment Standard |
| Does the team have stable active Electro attacks? | If yes, Valeriy can recover Impact Potential more easily |
| Does the team need shielding or interruption resistance? | If yes, Valeriy's field value rises |
| Is the team built around Stellar-Conduct? | If yes, Valeriy's passive value becomes much higher |
If the answer to all three is no, Valeriy may only be a regular Electro shielder. If all three are yes, his functional density becomes much more impressive.
Is Valeriy Worth Preparing For?
Materials that can be prepared in advance:
| Can Prepare Early | Explanation |
| Electro Ascension gems | The Vajrada Amethyst series is relatively stable |
| Mora and EXP books | Character leveling and Talent leveling consume a large amount of resources |
| Glory Talent books | If later confirmed unchanged, they can be farmed in advance |
| Ethereal enemy drops | Required for both Ascension and Talents, with a high total demand |
| General support weapons such as Favonius Sword | Even if they are not final best-in-slot, they can still be used by other supports |
Things not recommended for early overinvestment:
| Hold Off For Now | Reason |
| Pulling a weapon specifically for Valeriy | Signature weapon and weapon banner information are not confirmed |
| Farming a full artifact set in advance | Final mechanics and possible new sets may change the best choice |
| Forcing a C6 plan | 4-star Constellation costs are unpredictable and strength is not yet live-tested |
| Reserving every Crown for Valeriy | Talent priority still needs final testing |
If you already plan to play Version 7.2 Stellar-Conduct teams, Valeriy is worth watching closely. If your account lacks an Electro utility slot or a shield support, you can prepare general materials. If you only need a universal shielder, wait for official testing before making a heavy investment.
Conclusion
Valeriy's design direction is clear: he is not a traditional pure shield character. Instead, he connects defense, Electro support, and Stellar-Conduct buffs through the Impact Potential → Mortar Fire → Assault Command loop.
His strengths are functional density: short field time, shielding, Electro support, and the ability to let the active character help him accumulate resources through Burst. His risks are also obvious: if the final resource generation conditions, Assault Command consumption behavior, or Stellar-Conduct scaling are not favorable, his general utility may fall below traditional supports.
The safest preparation strategy for now is to farm general materials first, prepare Energy Recharge or ATK-oriented Swords, and keep artifact decisions flexible. After Version 7.2 officially launches, decide whether to invest deeply, chase Constellations, or build a full Stellar-Conduct team around him based on real testing.
